Saratoga Central Catholic Writing Workshop Program

What is the Writing Workshop Program?

The goal is to enhance research skills, writing skills and research formatting. During the 1st and 2nd Quarters, students will learn and use the MLA format process for research writing. The APA format process for research writing will be covered and learned during the 3rd and 4th Quarters.

Each grade, 6th through 12th, will be assigned a paper to write each quarter in Writer's Workshop. Course teachers are asked to submit to Mrs. Crowther topics they would like students to research from their core classes. It can include any topic that the teacher does not have time to cover inclass, or an area thaty the teacher would like students to have a more in-depth understanding of. This paper or topic does not replace any projects, research or content that class teachers already are using. These papers are being used to develop: writing skills, critical writing and thinking, formulating opinions, how to write different styles of papers (science papers are different than an English paper), and how to incorporate more than one subject area into their writing.

Paper topics, subject areas and research skills and development will focus on the following for each quarter marking period:

1st Quarter Social Studies and Religion
2nd Quarter Art and Religion
3rd Quarter Math and Science
4th Quarter Englsih and Art

Grading of student papers will be accomplished by 4 teachers:
